Sidney made his NHL debut in 2005 against the New Jersey Devils. In his first NHL campaign Crosby established franchise records in assists (63) and points (102) for a rookie. He also became the first rookie to score 100 points and earn 100 penalty points in the same season.

In his second NHL season in 2006, Crosby scored his first NHL hat trick in an 8-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. Six weeks later he recorded the first six point game his career. The same season he also became the youngest player to win the Art Ross Trophy. He was also the youngest scoring champion in any major North American professional sport.

The following season Crosby was made the youngest captain in NHL history captaining the Pittsburgh team at 19 years. He won the Hart Memorial Trophy and the Lester B. Pearson Award the same year, a rare feat for a player his age. Crosby also won the gold in 2005 at the World Junior Championships. His team won the Word Championship the next year.

In 2009, beating the Detroit Red Wings in the Finals, Crosby who was leading the Penguins won his first Stanley Cup. At 21 years, Crosby was the youngest NHL captain to lift the trophy.
