In Half Nelson Ryan played a drug addicted history teacher researching on the role by shadow walking a middle school teacher and studying the night about the Civil Rights Movement. Ryan won the Spirit Awards and was also nominated for an Academy Award, a Screen Actor’s Guild Award and the Broadcast Film Critics Association award. The sterling performance and his eye for detail got him cast opposite Sir Anthony Hopkins in his next film Fracture. Ryan Gosling is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 2007.

Gosling is currently lending his talent to the filming of Blue Valentine. Gosling is also fighting for chicken rights against leading food chain KFC asking them to stop the abuse of the birds in slaughter houses.
