Rolex, a world class brand moved forward from a product to an idea and finally into an inspiration, stands tall imagining and working towards a future that dreams of harmonious progress towards the highest forms of perfection. Over the hundred year of its operation, Rolex has partnered some of the greatest sporting events in history and through unhindered support has transformed them into world class events which test, inspire and celebrate the capacity of human achievement and determination. In the United States, Rolex collaborated with the racing committees to create the coveted Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series that holds a reputation as the proving ground for racers all over the world.
The most recent racing event out of the 12 races that comprise the Rolex Sports Car Series was the Montreal 200 that was held over two days on the 28th and 29th of August on the Circuit Gilles De Villeneuve in Montreal, Quebec. According to the performances so far the Chip Ganassi Racing team with a total of 248 points is leading the rankings while close on the heels is the GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing team with 244 points. In the third place is the SunTrust team with 234 points; however the increasing competition can lead to a turn of events any time. The Montreal 200 for 2009 is heating up with the close competition and the ever increasing levels of performance of the participating drivers, makes this an immensely riveting event. Over the two days that the Rolex Montreal 200 is held the first day features four practice sessions that is followed by a qualifying race that determines the drivers that will be taking part in the final racing challenge. The practice racing sessions are quite important as they not only prepare the racers for the coming event but are imperative in forming the pack that actually participates in the final racing challenge that is held on the second day of the competition.
On the 28th of August the practice sessions that concluded led to the qualifying event that saw racers left no holes barred to prove their mettle and their skills. Pulling ahead of the other racers by almost a hair’s breadth were racers from the GAINSCO Bob Stallings team who came in at the top finishing the race at 1:32.235 and notching up a top speed of 105.734 miles per hour, while Chip Ganassi Racing Team crossed the finish line at 1:32.235 with a top speed of 105.734 miles per hour in the second place. In the third place was the Penske Racing Team that finished the race in 1:32.442 at the top speed of 105.497 miles per hour. The qualifying race results show just how close the competition has gotten and how far the rivalry amongst the racers has peaked.
With only two more races left in the entire Rolex Racing Championships, the teams are pulling all stops to move ahead of the pack. Though 29th is going to decide the final champion, the qualifying leg of the race is equally crucial in charting the map to the finish.
